Arboricultural Services: BS 5837 Surveys
What is a BS 5837 Survey?
A BS 5837 survey is one which is undertaken in accordance with the guidelines detailed in the British Standards document 'BS 5837 - Guide for Trees in Relation to Construction: Recommendations'.
The BS 5837 guidelines outline a survey and assessment methodology which provides an evaluation of onsite and adjacent offsite trees, in terms of the species present, their physiological condition, structural factors and tree quality.
The outcome of the survey is a standardised form of data detailing each tree individually, or in appropriate groups, which informs an Arboricultural Impact Assessment and provides the information needed to develop a Tree Protection Plan. The survey itself, and the dependent documents, are often required by the Local Planning Authority in support of a Planning Application where the project may impact upon trees.
How can LSC help?
Our Arboricultural Consultants are highly experienced in undertaking surveys to BS 5837 standards across a range of sites, from previously undeveloped sites to existing college and commercial sites where expansion and improvement proposals need to work alongside the existing soft landscaping.
We would bring this experience to your project, to provide a high quality, accurate assessment of the trees which might be affected by the proposals. This gives you the information you need to avoid impacts where possible, mitigate where necessary and secure a smooth progress through Planning.
Our surveys are completed to Best Practice as outlined in the British Standards guidelines, and our reports consistently provide the information required by our clients to secure Planning Permission.
