Badger Services - Site Supervision

What is Site Supervision for Badgers?

UK legislation protects badgers from killing and injuring, and their setts from disturbance or destruction. If a sett requires closure, then this must be undertaken carefully in accordance with a badger licence. However sometimes, where there is dense scrub or other obstacles to a full survey, there can be residual uncertainty as to whether a sett might be present. In this instance, it may be necessary for an Ecologist to undertake supervision of initial clearance works in order to ensure that any setts present are identified and badgers are unharmed.

Supervision would allow an ecologist to provide advice and direction on how to undertake clearance works in such a way as to minimise risk to badgers, whilst carrying out inspections of locations where setts might be found. This means that your site can be cleared with confidence that your contractors are working within the law to avoid killing or injuring of badgers, or destruction of their setts.
