Bird Services: Mitigation and Habitat Design

What is Mitigation and Habitat Design?

Where a proposed Development has an impact upon birds, either their nests or their foraging habitat, a proportionate degree of compensation and mitigation is often required.

The scale of compensation and mitigation required will vary from scheme to scheme - removal of individual nesting opportunities could be addressed through the installation of appropriate bird boxes whilst loss of significant roosts or foraging resources may require more extensive measures. Sometimes nesting features can be integrated into the design of a building so that your project can seamlessly deliver biodiversity enhancement with minimal impact on design or appearance. In other cases, minor amendments to landscaping designs can provide suitable nesting species, or ensure provision of berries and seeds for birds in the autumn and winter.

How can LSC help?

Our team at LSC has extensive experience of designing and specifying mitigation and compensation measures to address a wide range of impacts.

We look at each scheme individually, and consider objectively the requirements to ensure that the impacts are offset. There are a range of options available and we will work with your site, your budget and your constraints to ensure that the solution is optimal for both the client and the local nesting bird populations.
